Trumpet of the Loop

Things that were suppose to blow but only ended up sucking

Once again I find myself failing miserably at building wind instruments. Here is a whole rack of bamboo flutes that do not make a sound at all. I will admit that I know nothing when it comes to playing wind instruments, but the lady here has a Clarinet which makes a sound every time I put it to my mouth, grant it that sound is not what one would call pleasing to the ear, but it is a sound. I think it has something to do with my blow hole and I’ll leave it at that.

It’s the month of August and my show at Mitzi’s Sister is going well. Every six months or so they let me hang all my junk, and August is there lucky month. I love hanging here not only because it’s in my neighborhood, and I use to work there, but also because the response is always better then I expect. Seven nights a week of free music brings out a lot of people and a lot of musicians. In fact for two years some friends and I would host an experimental night of music, noise, spoken word, and they occasional drunken jam.

The Sister also houses a permanent collection of some of my older pieces, a bit ruff and dusty, but it’s where all of these instruments came from in the first place. If you are interested in seeing any of these pieces at the sister there address is 1554 Queen Street west. If you don’t want to see the stuff you can still go in and eat some really great food, and hear some really good music.

P.S. If Sean or Chris is working you don’t know me.

The Cameron Show

Here is a collage of images from the show I did at the Cameron. The show was only supposed to last a month but the good folks at The Cameron House ask me if I would like to stay up an extra month. Of course I said yes, and now it looks I will be part of a group show that is going on for the month of August.
The show is called The Group of Cousins Art Show. My good friend Sam Ferrara will be part of this show as well. He is an amazing artist that I have shown with a few years back at the Columbus Center.
Looking back I laugh now at how scared I was before hanging this show. I kept thinking to myself, this bar is full of great musicians, nobody is going to get what I do and they’re all going to think I’m a hack. Well the hack part is true, but that’s never stopped me before. I must say that I was very happy about the response I got, many good comments were sent my way, and I thank all the people that came out to the opening, and all the people that went by the Cameron over the past two months to check it out.
When the month everything remaining will be moved to Mitzi Sister on Queen West and will hang till the first of September, and after that I promise to start recording again if only to put some MP3s up for people to listen to.

I would like to thank my good friend Donna for going down to the Cameron all the way from Mississauga to shoot the photos I used in this collage. I know it must have been hard dealing with all them crazy city folks, and I’m glad you made it back home safely.

Cheers

New Show at the Cameron House

So here it is the flyer for my next show. Many thanks to Rami for designing this one; no offence to fat Bob, but I see a two stringed instrument in your future. I would also like to thank Jen for coming up with the name. If it were up to me I would have named it Alien Abductions and the Instruments They Left Behind. Thanks for not letting that happen. For you I see a house with no instruments at all, well at least for a month

All the information is in the flyer but I will type it out anyways, because that’s just the kind of guy I am. The show will be hanging for the month of June at The Cameron House on Queen. The opening will be on June 7th at 7pm, one day after my birthday. I don’t know why I do that to myself. My good friend Colonel Tom Parker will be playing that night so those of you who like to watch sexy men strut there stuff on stage you will be in for a real treat. I will not be playing that night so there are now two treats to sweeten the deal.

I have been dreading and looking forward to this show for over four months now. Thirty new instruments will be on display, along with a select few older experimentations. I do have a very strict policy of people touching my stuff when it’s hanging in a show so be sure to pluck and strum each and every one of them, or I’ll find out, and then I’ll be angry, you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry. OK just kidding, but please, bang away.

Cheers
